I&M Foundation partners with Jonathan Jackson Foundation to provide tools for income generation in Kayole.

I&M Foundation collaborated with the Jonathan Jackson Foundation on the Jenga Bizna Mtaani project, designed to empower youth and women group businesses in informal settlements by providing essential resources. The goal was to facilitate the establishment of sustainable avenues for income generation. The comprehensive program is dedicated to fostering the growth of both individual and group owned enterprises. It achieves this by providing group members with essential training in entrepreneurial best practices, with a particular emphasis on income generation for long-term job creation and sustainability.

I&M Foundation sponsors Bank staff CSR day

On December 16th, 2023, the I&M Bank fraternity came together to take part in various CSR activities across the country aimed at improving lives in the communities we serve to enhance the Bank’s shared value proposition. In line with the I&M Foundation’s pillars namely, Environmental Conservation and Enabling Giving; and in the spirit of Pamoja, the I&M Bank CSR Committee and the I&M Foundation invites you to participate in this year’s CSR day dubbed “A Time to Give”. The objective of the day was to inspire and provide an opportunity to all Staff to step up, act and stand in the gap for the communities that host us through volunteering of skills, time, and resources to different causes. All the activities of this day were sponsored by the I&M Foundation with the sanction of its Board of Trustees. 

 

Our outstation branches ran various initiatives at multiple locations across Kenya while Nairobi Branches & Head Office support held three concurrent activities including a medical camp in Gikombaa tree planting in the Ngong’ Hills Sanctuary and a visit to give donations to Mary Faith Childrens Home, Riruta Satellite.

I&M Foundation Supports Maa Trust Program

I&M Foundation is supporting the Maa Trust program that engages 579 Maasai women in an environmentally sustainable livelihood project through the Maa Beadwork social enterprise. The goal of this program is to ensure all the bead work artisans gain financial independence and are highly skilled to meet the required standards of international customers. Recently , I&M Foundation team conducted a M&E visit to the Maa Trust program and interacted with the maa beading women on the ground. Several women attested on how the program has empowered them to earn a source of livelihood thus placing them in a better position to supplement their household incomes. This empowerment will go a long way in helping them lift their families from poverty, provide basic needs and educate girls for enhanced participation in their communities’ development. #IMFoundation #IMcares

Kibagare Feeding Programme – 2018

I&M Bank, Kenya has over the last 18 years supported different needs of the Kibagare Good News Center. In 2018, the Bank revived the monthly feeding programme where staff members donated their time to feed over 1000 children at the centre. The Bank continued to support the cost of the feeding programme throughout the year. In addition, the Bank donated a van aimed at supporting the centre’s transport needs. The Bank contributed over KShs. 700,000 towards these initiatives.

I&M Bank, Kenya donated Kshs. 75,000 per month towards monthly salaries for a dedicated nurse at the Kamili Mental Health Organization who oversees the care for over 3300 patients and their families. Kamili’s mission is to provide those suffering from mental health illnesses in Kenya equal access to services and to affordable care in order to improve their quality of life. The total contribution towards this donation from the Bank was Kshs. 525,000.

I&M Bank Supports Faraja Cancer Support Trust

I&M Bank continues to support Faraja Cancer Support Trust.
 
I&M Bank, Kenya last year donated Kshs. 500,000 to Faraja Cancer Support Trust aimed at supporting the Center’s needs in Cancer support. The Faraja Cancer Support Trust was founded in 2010 and provides a safe haven for Cancer patients and their carers by providing emotional, practical and healing support.

Hope Campaign

Staff members from I&M Bank donated over KShs 600,000 to support Faraja Cancer Support Trust and the Bank matched the contribution made by staff members.
 
I&M Bank, Kenya staff members continued to express their spirit of sharing hope with the less fortunate in society through the I&M Hope Campaign. This campaign was conducted in October Breast Cancer Awareness month. Staff members from I&M Bank donated over KShs 600,000 to support the Trust and the Bank matched the contribution made by staff members. The I&M Hope Campaign also presented an opportunity on the sensitization prevention and care on Cancer. The Faraja Cancer Support Trust offers cancer patients palliative care, information, advice, counseling, and complementary therapies.

Donation to Kamili Mental Health Organization

I&M Bank, Kenya donated over KShs 300,000 to support initiatives spearheaded by the Kamili Organization, a Kenyan NGO set up to support the few mental hospitals running in Kenya. The organization champions various initiatives in Mental Health such as training of nurses and setting up outreach clinics to support the growing demand for Mental Health Care in the country.

I&M Bank Annual Medical Camp 2016

November 2016 – Over 8,000 Kibagare slum residents benefited from a two day medical camp organized by the Bank‟s CSR team. A team of 35 doctors were able to attend to various medical needs of the residents such as screening for ailments such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Ulcers, and Cancer among other conditions.

Jogoo Children’s Home

Staff members from the I&M Bank (K) Ltd, Kisii branch last year spent their CSR day at the Jogoo Children’s home in Kisii town. The home which provides shelter for 120 children who come from financially constrained backgrounds benefitted from various food donations. Staff members also got the chance to play, sing and make merry with the children during the visit.

The Bank’s Kitale branch staff members spent their CSR day at the Seeds Orphanage Children’s Home in Kitale. The center rehabilitates slightly over 200 children, many of whom are orphans, from diverse needy backgrounds. The team engaged in different activities with the children including mentoring. They also presented donations of food and blankets to the home.

Kamiti Youth Correctional Centre

I&M Bank, Kenya donated seats, blankets, and foodstuff to the youths at the Kamiti Youth Correctional Center.
 
I&M Bank, Kenya donated seats, blankets, and foodstuff to the youths at the Kamiti Youth Correctional Center. This is the largest youth correctional center in Kenya drawing first-time offenders under the age of eighteen from all over the country. I&M Bank staff members had the opportunity to share a meal, interact with and provide mentoring and counseling to the group of teenage boys, some of whom lack role models to provide guidance.

I&M Bank Medical Camp

Over 3000 Kamukunji Jua Kali (small scale) artisans benefited from the 2015 edition of the I&M Bank’s medical camp. The medical camp’s theme Afya Njema, Maisha Mema was spearheaded by a team of professional doctors, paramedics, and staff. The camp was held at Muthurwa Primary School. Various ailments such as cancer (prostate & breast), ear nose, and throat (ENT) amongst other conditions were covered during the event. The activities at the camp focused on diagnosing and treating ailments whilst offering advice for follow-up treatment at good referral hospitals.

The Bank remains at the forefront in heeding the call to donate blood to save lives. The Bank conducted its annual blood donation drive that was done in tandem with the World Blood Donor day organized by the World Health Organization (WHO). The blood drive took place at different regional branches as well as in Nairobi, where I&M Bank Kenya staff members and the public got to participate in the initiative.

I&M Bank in conjunction with the Bhagwanji Raja Charitable Foundation donated KShs. 50 million under its CSR initiative to Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital. The funds donated will go towards equipping the ultra-modern Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) and Radiology departments of the newly constructed hospital wing. This donation will enable the doctors to better respond to the needs of the young patients and give them a chance of survival. The Bank’s Chairman S.B.R. Shah, who is also a Trustee of the Bhagwanji Raja Charitable Foundation expressed his joy at the good work that Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital is doing and noted that the donation is in line with the Bank’s corporate philosophy to support institutions of excellence which serve our children in the region and society at large. Teule Kenya

The bank donated money towards the payment of tuition fees to selected students in various secondary schools.
 
Teule Kenya is a non-governmental organization, registered in March 1996 under the NGO Act. It was formerly known as Homeless Children International. Teule works with children from the streets who are orphaned, abandoned, and vulnerable with the aim of educating and rehabilitating them. They also provide basic needs for the children like food, shelter, clothing, and education. The bank paid Kshs 700,000/- towards payment of tuition fees to selected students in various secondary schools.

The Assumption Sisters of Nairobi run Kibagare Centre as a settlement for the hungry children. I&M Bank is committed to helping the poor orphaned children of Kibagare and participate in a monthly feeding programme that sees over 1500 children from nearby slums enjoy a hearty meal served by the Bank’s staff.

I&M Bank committed to continuing purchasing baby formula for children at the Nest Children’s home for the year 2011. In 2010 the bank started a relationship with Nest to purchase formula for the infants rescued by the home after the imprisonment of their mothers.

Kenya Red Cross Society – Greenhouse Program

The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) greenhouse program established during the 2009 drought appeal seeks to enhance food security and improve livelihoods by strengthening community resilience to drought. Subsequently following the 2011 drought that was classified the worst in the horn of Africa in 60 years that led to severe deterioration of grazing resources, water sources leading to exceptionally long migrations, livestock deaths, alarming school dropout rates, increased malnutrition rates, particularly for lactating mothers, children under 5 years of age and the elderly, and the resurgence of debilitating conflict as communities competed for resources, KRCS renewed her appeal and several partners including I&M Bank came on board. The bank made a contribution of Kshs.957, 000/- towards the purchase of 4 greenhouses to be set up in needy and drought-stricken areas. In partnership with I&M Bank, KRCS identified four schools in Baringo, Marigat, Malindi, and Kwale who benefited from one greenhouse each. These include Kiserian Sec. School (Baringo), Labos Primary School (Marigat), Kakoneni Girls Sec. School (Malindi) and Kombani Girls Sec. School (Kwale).

Nest Children’s Home

The NEST Children’s Home is a rescue center for children whose parents are in conflict with the law. It reaches out to rescue and improves the general living conditions of the affected children while their mothers are in prison. The home also caters to abandoned infants many of who are severely malnourished. The bank pays the home an annual amount of Kshs 750,000/- towards providing children aged 0 – 7 months with baby formula milk and baby food given to severely malnourished babies or those having a problem adjusting to regular food.

Roho Kwa Roho Foundation

Roho Kwa Roho Foundation is the charitable arm of Peak Performance International that seeks to highlight the plight of vulnerable children in the society. It specifically supports two categories of children:
  1. HIV orphans living in the slums. Most of the children are located in the vast slum of Kawangware.
  2. Mentally impaired children from poor families drawn from Kibera, Githurai and Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums as well as from rural areas of Kirinyaga

Blood Donation

I&M Bank staff respond in large numbers to an appeal for blood donation
 
I&M Bank staff responded in large numbers to an appeal for blood donation for the victims of what became known as the Sinai Fire tragedy in September 2011. The fire started by a petrol leak from a fuel pipeline and saw nearly 100 people dead and over 100 people admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital with serious burns. Sinai is a densely populated slum in Nairobi’s Industrial area.

Port Rietz APDK Clinic In Mombasa

I&M Bank together with Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa supported Port Rietz APDK Clinic, Mombasa
 
I&M Bank together with Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa each contributed an amount of KShs 500,000 to Port Rietz APDK Clinic towards the facilitation of corrective surgeries for handicapped children in Mombasa. Numerous lives of young children have been changed through operations carried out by APDK, a project of the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya Coast Branch which depends solely on donor funding.

Cornel Ngaleku Children Centre is one of the orphanages in Tanzania, located in a drought stricken remote village in the Rombo District along the lower eastern slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The donation of KShs. 2 million from I&M Bank (T) Ltd went to the upkeep of the children who were either orphaned due to loss of parents through HIV AIDS, or abandoned and left in the care of relatives who are unable to provide quality care due to poverty, old age or mental illness.
