Communities worldwide observe the annual Earth Month by organizing a series of environmental activities throughout the month of April as a build up to the annual Earth day celebrated on April 22nd.
Earth Day aims at raising awareness on environmental programs, rekindles public commitment and builds community activism around the world through a broad range of events and activities.
Speaking at the tree planting exercise, Mr. Arun Mathur, I&M Bank Group CEO noted, “I&M Bank aims at building the next generation of environmentalists by educating its Young Savers Account holders on the fundamentals of environmental conservation through this exercise.”
I&M Bank Ltd through the CSR arm’s environmental pillar, believe that through building sustainable environments, we are able to improve livelihoods of our people, hence mitigate poverty levels in Kenya and Africa as a continent. This is mainly achieved by the tree planting exercise that happens every year at the I&M Bank forest in Karura.
The Bank has undertaken to develop 25 acres of the Karura Forest as a commitment to preserving the environment through its CSR arm. In March 2009, there was an unfortunate incident of a fire on the land which badly affected a large tract of our forest.
As part of I&M Bank Ltd’s Silver Jubilee celebrations and corporate responsibility role, the Bank in partnership with the Standard Group held a Charity Walk to create awareness on environmental Conservation on Sunday 18th September 2005
