13. Debit Cards
- I&M Bank may, in its sole discretion, issue a Debit and/or ATM (Automated Teller Machine) Card to a Customer who maintains an Account or banking service and/or product with I&M Bank.
- I&M Bank will issue a onetime Personal Identification Number (PIN) to the Customer, which the Customer immediately personalizes for the use at ATMs and terminals that accept the ATM/Debit Card. The Customer agrees that they will not disclose the PIN to any person and shall take all possible care to prevent discovery of the PIN by any person; and the Customer shall be fully liable to I&M Bank for all transactions made with the PIN whether with or without the knowledge or authorization of the Customer.
- The Customer shall take all reasonable precautions to prevent the loss or theft of an ATM/ Debit Card and shall not disclose the PIN to any party and also undertakes not to give physical possession of the card to another.
- You can use your ATM Card to withdraw cash, deposit money, transfer money, and pay for goods and services where your Card is accepted as a means of Your Card expires on the date shown on the Card.
- In the event that an ATM/Debit Card is lost or stolen or the PIN is disclosed to any other party, the Customer shall immediately, thereafter, report the said loss, theft or disclosure, together with the particulars of the ATM/Debit Card, to I&M Bank by telephone or in person and to the Police where such loss or theft or disclosure occurred. Until the loss, theft or disclosure (as the case may be) is reported to I&M Bank, the Customer will be responsible for all transactions processed by use of the ATM/Debit Where notice of the loss, theft or disclosure of PIN referred to in (a) above is given to I&M Bank orally it must be confirmed in writing by the Customer at any I&M Bank’ branches at least within forty-eight (48) hours of the receipt of the oral notice to I&M Bank.
- You agree that you are responsible for ensuring that any additional Card issued is used in accordance with this Agreement. You are responsible for all expenditure that is incurred on any additional.
- You acknowledge receipt of a Visa Debit Card, therefore aware that I&M Bank subscribes to the Visa Card By acceptance of the Visa Debit card and consenting to these terms, you irrevocably consent to also be subject and bound by the Visa Card Scheme Rules and any other card network scheme rules to which I&M Bank subscribes. Therefore, you hereby wholly release I&M Bank from any liability owing to each respective scheme rules and decisions made thereto in respect to any transactions processed with your visa debit card.
Card Authorizations
- Authorising Card transactions:

- You authorise Card transactions in your presence by presenting your Card and signing a transaction slip, or entering your personal identification number i.e. PIN, in a point of sale terminal, or by placing your card close to a point of sale terminal that is contactless [ENV] enabled.
- You authorise Card transactions remotely without presenting your Card (e.g. by telephone or over the internet) by providing your Card number, its expiry date, and its security number. This carries a higher risk of fraud and disputes than when you authorise Card transactions in your presence.

- The Bank reserves the right to set limits on the value of transactions and the number of transactions permitted on your Card or via E-Banking. You may set lower limits for your protection or ask the Bank for higher
Risk of Contactless Card Transactions:

- Contactless refers to technology through which a card with an embedded Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip and an antenna transmits payment details wirelessly to a contactless reader connected to a merchant’s point-of-sale (POS)
- I&M Bank cards are enabled with contactless technology, which allows cardholders to wave, or tap the EMV enabled card on a contactless enabled EMV compliant POS terminal for making a payment
- Customers may not be required to enter a PIN, Swipe or sign to complete transactions carried out on contactless
- Customer hereby agrees to use contact mode to make purchases at a merchant POS for any value depending on the available credit balance and limit on their card and in line with card terms and
- Customer agrees, accepts and acknowledges that use of this contactless mode feature is voluntary by the customer and is not mandated by the Bank. The Customer therefore hereby unequivocally releases the Bank from any liability whatsoever arising out of processing contactless transactions and for any conditions that the merchant or the acquiring bank may impose on the acceptance/non acceptance of contactless/contact mode of
- Contactless mode feature is in-built within the customer’s card and customers do not have an option to turn off or disable the functionality, however, Customer have the option not to process transactions by way of contactless.

Keeping your Card & Personal Identification Number (PIN) secure.
- You hereby agree and consent to receipt of the card and undertake not to allow anyone else to use your Card; and to keep your Card securely in your possession.
- The Bank gives you a onetime PIN on your mobile phone handset, which you undertake to change immediately to your personal secrecy. It is your responsibility to provide the correct mobile phone number to receive the one-time The PIN is to prevent anyone else from using your Card or accessing your Account via Internet Banking and Fastpay. You agree not to disclose your PIN or password to anyone.
- The security of your Card is at risk if you lose it, or if it is stolen, or if someone else uses it.
The Customer’s use of an ATM/Debit Card shall constitute the Customer’s acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
- ATM/Debit Cards shall remain I&M Bank’s property and will be surrendered to I&M Bank immediately upon the request of I&M Bank.
- I&M Bank may change from time to time at its discretion and without prior notice the available benefits and the scope of the services provided by I&M Bank in relation to the ATM/Debit card.
- In compliance with Uganda lotteries and gambling laws you agree not to use your Card, Internet Banking or Fastpay to participate in lotteries organised within and outside Uganda. The Bank will report your Card, transactions involving these activities to the Ugandan authorities using your card.
- The Customer accepts I&M Bank’s record of all Card Transactions as conclusive and binding for all purposes.
- No ATM/Debit Card is transferable, and the Customer may not pledge an ATM/Debit Card as security to obtain credit.
- I&M Bank shall not be liable to the Customer for any failure in performing its obligations or providing any service in connection with any computer, telecommunications or other technical failure.
- The Customer acknowledges that all withdrawals are subject to limits determined from time to time by the Bank.
- I&M Bank shall not be responsible for or be in any way liable for any loss or damage howsoever incurred or suffered by the Customer by reason of I&M Bank, any member institution of VISA or MasterCard, any other bank or financial institution, any ATM or terminal or any other party refusing to allow a transaction or accept or to honor the ATM/ Debit Card or the ATM/ Debit Card numbers or the PIN.
- In case of an ATM/Debit Card being issued with respect to a Joint Account, the Customers shall be jointly and severally liable to I&M Bank in respect thereof.
- I&M Bank reserves the right, at all times and without any notice to the Customer, to refuse to authorize any purchase or cash advance, cancel or suspend the right to use any Card or PIN in respect of a specific Card Transaction or all transactions and to refuse to renew and/ or replace any card.
- The Customer may collect the ATM/Debit Card from any of I&M Bank’s branches or, at the sole risk of the Customer, may request for the ATM/Debit Card to be sent by post to the address notified by the Customer to I&M Bank.
- The Bank may at its discretion require that the Customer complete mandatory procedures in order to activate the ATM/Debit Until such procedures (if any) are completed, no transactions may be undertaken with the ATM/ Debit Card.
- The Customer will be responsible for all transactions processed by use of a ATM/Debit Card regardless of whether:

- the transactions were processed with the Customer’s knowledge or express or implied authority or
- the transactions may be the result of a fraudulent act. The Customer hereby authorizes I&M Bank to debit the Customer’s Account for any withdrawal, transfer or transaction in accordance with the Bank’s procedures.

- The Customer authorizes I&M Bank to debit any of the Customer’s Accounts with the amount of any withdrawal or other transaction effected by use of an ATM/Debit card.
- Cash deposited at any terminal using an ATM/Debit Card will only be credited to the Customer’s Account after I&M Bank’s verification of the The amount of the deposit verified by I&M Bank shall be deemed the correct amount of the deposit. The record issued by any terminal shall only represent what the Customer claims to have deposited.
- Debit Card transactions (including online and overseas transactions, if applicable) effected in US Dollars will be converted into the currency of the account linked to the Debit Card at the prevailing Debit Card transactions effected in foreign currencies other than US Dollars will be first converted to US Dollars before being converted into the currency of the account linked to the Debit Card. The conversion will take place on the date on which the transaction is received and recorded by us (“posting date”). The currency conversion will be based on the Bank’s prevailing foreign exchange rate.
- You may be able to use your Card outside Uganda, however not to the same extent or in the same way as you use them in Uganda. You hereby acknowledge and consent that fees for cash withdrawals will likely be higher, including the charges of the foreign bank that operates an ATM from which you withdraw cash.
- You may only receive SMS Alert messages outside Uganda if you have applied for international roaming services with your cellphone service provider.
- The authorisation amount received via SMS Alert for a Card transaction in a foreign currency may differ from the amount reflected on your statement because of exchange rates and currency conversion fees.
- The Customer consents to:

- I&M Bank’s participation from time to time in any card network schemes,
- the release and transmission of data and information with respect to any of the Customer’s Account by any participants in such card network schemes and
- the storage and processing by any means of such data and information by any participants in such card network The Customer further consents to the compliance by I&M Bank and the said participants of such card network schemes with the laws and regulations of their respective jurisdictions governing disclosure of Account information to which I&M Bank and the said participants may be respectively subject.

- There are limited circumstances in which you may be able to reverse payments for goods and services that you have bought using your Card, subject to card issuer scheme rules.
- The Customer hereby agrees to indemnify I&M Bank against all loss, damage and/or liability howsoever caused resulting from the issuance and/or use of an ATM/Debit card.
