Profile Board Director with 30 years’ experience of working in a fast paced collaborative professional services industry with significant executive leadership accomplishments in management consultancy, policy advocacy, business management, community service and philanthropy. Career History After working with PwC for 27 years, Francis took early retirement from the firm in June 2022 to focus on his private agri-businesses enterprises and social projects which include Kazinga Coffee, Masaka School for the Deaf and Masaka Vocational Training Institute. During his 27-year career with PwC, he served the firm as a Partner for 17 years, Managing Partner of PwC Uganda for 12 years, and member of the PwC Africa Governance Board for 8 years. Mr Kihara Maina became the Regional Chief Executive Officer in January 2023. He joined I&M Bank Kenya as the Chief Executive Officer and Board member in May 2016. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Moi University and an Executive MBA from the University of Chicago – Booth School of Business. Mr Maina, began his banking career in June 1993 at Stanbic Bank Kenya then moved to Barclays Bank Kenya in 1997 where he served extensively over the years ultimately taking up senior leadership positions. Prior to joining I&M Bank, Kihara was the Managing Director of Barclays Bank Tanzania.

Robin Bairstow was appointed I&M Bank Uganda Chief Executive Officer in October 2023. Robin, who previously served as the CEO of I&M Bank Rwanda for 8 years, has a remarkable track record in the financial services sector with both domestic and international banking organizations. His journey in finance began with a solid foundation, graduating from the South African Merchant Naval Academy and furthering his education with a CIBM (SA) and a Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Leicester. With over 30 years of senior banking roles across Africa and Asia, he held senior positions at Standard Chartered Bank, Citibank, BOE Bank, ABSA and Nedbank. Robin's extensive experience and dynamic leadership were instrumental in his role as Chief Executive Officer of I&M Bank Rwanda which saw the Bank thrive, tripling its total assets to RWF 491.3 billion, and increasing pre-tax profits to RWF 13.4 billion, firmly establishing itself as a leading bank in Rwanda. Under Robin's leadership, I&M Bank Rwanda was also successfully listed on the Rwanda Stock Exchange in 2017. We are confident that Robin's proven capabilities will drive I&M Bank Uganda to new heights of success in the future.

Micheline Ntiru is a global finance and impact leader with over 22 years of global, professional in Africa, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and the United States primarily. She has an MBA from University of Cambridge, UK, has worked in 40 countries across Africa and speaks 9 languages including Swahili, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Ms Ntiru has extensive expertise in investment strategy, development finance, climate finance, small business growth and technology innovation with the International Finance Corporation, Stanford University, Three Cairns Group, Delta 40 and Nokia. Investment strategy, fund raising, climate finance, and human capital development are her current areas of focus. She serves as a Director on the boards of ATGSamata, LEAP Africa and eHealth Africa.

Sandra Martyres is a career banker with over 25 years’ experience in Senior Management roles. She started her career with Indian Bank and then moved over to Société Générale (SG) a leading European Bank from where she retired as Deputy Chief Executive Officer – India. She holds a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Mumbai, a Diploma in Business Administration and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers. During her tenure with SG, she was a member of several Committees of the Indian Bank’s Association. Sandra has undergone extensive training in all areas of Banking in Mumbai, London and Paris including an Investment Banking Programme at Kellogg’s School of Business Chicago. Post retirement, she was appointed on the Advisory Board of SG- India. She also held various Director Positions in State Bank of India Mutual Fund, SG Wealth Management Services, ALD Automotive P. Ltd and was the Chairperson of Bank One Mauritius. She is currently an Independent Director on the Boards of Novartis India Ltd. and Franklin Templeton Trustee Services P. Ltd, and the Chairperson of the Board of HNI India Office Ltd. She chairs the Audit and NRC Board Committees of Novartis and is a member of the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee (CSR). At Franklin Templeton, she is a member of the Audit, Risk Management and CSR Committees

Ketan Morjaria is a founder and Board Member of both I&M Bank in Uganda and Credit Bank in Kenya, and a strategic shareholder in both institutions. He has wide experience in commerce and property development in Africa, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East. He has served on the boards of several successful commercial companies. Mr. Morjaria is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.

Suleiman Kiggundu was educated as an engineer and economist at Yale University. Over the past 25 years, he has served in senior leadership roles at various leading institutions, including Equator Bank, Equator Capital Partners, HSBC Bank plc and as the Regional Director for Africa at CDC Group plc. Suleiman also serves as a non-executive director of various companies, including GA Insurance Uganda and Kampala Hospital locally. He also chairs CFS Group (a pan-African, advisory & capital markets-oriented financial services group).

Sam Ntulume joined I&M Bank (Uganda) Limited in 2021. Sam has a working career span of 28 years in various sectors of the economy with 16 years of these being in the Financial Services Industry. He has a wealth of experience in Executive Leadership, Corporate Governance, Strategy & Innovation, Business Development, Mergers & Acquisition, Risk Management & Control, Compliance, Financial Management, Corporate Reporting, Operations & Information Technology and Transformation at Senior Management and Board level, having worked for both international and local institutions within and outside Uganda. Sam has held several Executive Management positions and was most recently the Executive Director, Finance & Strategy at NCBA Bank Uganda Limited. He served as Executive Director and subsequently as Managing Director of NC Bank Uganda Limited prior to the business amalgamation with Commercial Bank of Africa (Uganda) Limited. He also served in senior management roles at Stanbic Bank in both Uganda and Kenya, Total Uganda Limited and Uganda Revenue Authority. Sam holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the East & Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI) in Arusha; is a qualified Accountant (FCCA & CPA) and holds a Diploma in Business Studies (UDBS) from the National College of Business Studies, currently known as the Makerere University Business School. Sam enjoys supporting social transformation causes and coaching & mentoring young people during his spare time.

Ron Kawamara is a seasoned business executive and entrepreneur with over 17 years of leadership experience in building and scaling businesses across Africa. He has extensive expertise in digital commerce, hospitality, logistics, and technology-driven enterprises. Ron previously served as Senior Vice President and Regional CEO at Jumia, Africa’s leading e-commerce platform, where he played a key role in expanding the company’s operations and strengthening its market presence across several African markets. He is the Founder and Group Chief Executive of Hugamara, a long-term holding company focused on founding, acquiring, and nurturing high-quality businesses through disciplined investment and values-driven leadership. Hugamara oversees a growing portfolio of companies in the hospitality, technology, and logistics sectors, with operations spanning Uganda, Kenya, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States. Ron also contributes to national economic development through public and industry leadership roles. He serves as Vice Chairperson of the Uganda Tourism Board and as Chairperson of the E-Trade Chamber of Commerce, where he supports initiatives that promote tourism, digital trade, and private-sector growth. He has a Master’s degree in Development Economics from the University of Oxford. As an Independent Non-Executive Director at I&M Bank, Ron brings strong entrepreneurial insight, regional market expertise, and a strategic perspective on digital transformation, customer-centric growth, and emerging market innovation.

Mrs Nadine M Byarugaba has banking experience that spans over 36 years of which 21 years were in full time work at senior level and in several capacities at Standard Chartered Bank Uganda and Botswana, working in technology operations, internal audit and Financial Markets. She retired early after serving as an Africa Regional Director for e Commerce for three years and pursued a career in Corporate Governance through appropriate training; combined with her work experience and associated skills gained, she is grounded in the field. She is a Non-Executive Director at Uganda Reinsurance Company Uganda Limited and Nakasero Hospital Limited. Most recently, she was a Non-Executive Director at ABSA Bank Uganda Limited for 9 years of which she was a Board Chairman for 5 years. Served as a Trustee on the Board of aBi Trust (now aBi Development Ltd) a multi-donor entity which is devoted to private sector agribusiness development and New Face New Voices, a Pan African Advocacy Mrs. Byarugaba holds an MBA from Heriot Watt University, in UK. She has a higher Diploma in Marketing from Makerere Business School; has attended many Leadership courses including one at INSEAD, Singapore; has an ACI Dealing Certificate by The Financial Markets Association, Paris; is a Certified Credit Analyst by Standard Chartered Bank; has trained in Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies, by Harvard Business School, USA and did Women on Board’ program by Yale University, USA. She is a member of NEDonBoard, a UK professional body for non-executive Directors and board members; she is also a member of Board Prospects, the world’s largest boardroom community.

Ms. Rebecca Lwebuga-Kaggwa was appointed to the Board of I&M Bank (Uganda) Limited as an Independent Non-Executive Director with effect from 13 August 2025. Rebecca is a seasoned professional with a career spanning 30 years in Banking at various Senior Executive Levels within Standard Chartered Bank. With a wealth of experience in finance and audit, compliance assurance, and financial crime and regulatory risk management she contributed to the overall strategic direction and financial performance of the Bank in Uganda, Kenya, and Africa. Rebecca is a qualified Certified Public Accountant and Certified Public Secretary,  a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya and Uganda, an Associate of the Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) and an Executive Coach (AoEC). She holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Makerere University. Rebecca is also an independent member of the Board Audit & Risk Committee of Uganda Reinsurance Co. Ltd (Uganda Re).
