I&M Bank offers two-day free medical services to the residents of Kibagare slums

October 28, 2016: I&M Bank is providing free medical services to residents of Kibagare slums in Nairobi as part of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

Speaking during the launch of a two day free medical camp at St Martins Kibagare Primary School in Loresho, Nairobi, I&M Bank Head of Business Development L.A. Sivaramakrishnan said the Bank was reaching out to the under-privileged population in a bid to help improve their lives.

“I&M Bank has a robust social responsibility programme and health is one of the key pillars. For the two days, the Bank will spend Sh3.5 million to provide medical services to the residents of Kibagare slums,” Mr. Sivaramakrishnan noted.

The bank chose to hold the camp for residents, dubbed - Afya Njema, Maisha Mema, following the long term relationship the bank has had with the Kibagare community, having identified health issue as one of the primary needs of residents.

The financial institution has also been supporting needy children from the Kibagare slums and the neighboring areas through a monthly feeding programme that supports over 2,000 children. During the feeding programs, the Bank noted the dire need for medical attention hence the 2016 I&M Medical camp for the community.

Kibagare slum has a population of about 57,000 residents who have limited access to basic healthcare facilities. They population is largely affected by common infections such as airborne diseases, waterborne diseases, gynecological conditions, fungal infections, optical conditions, among other conditions.

“We target to reach as many residents as possible during this two day of medical services,” Mr. Sivaramakrishnan said.

Through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects, I&M Bank strives to improve the quality of life in the society by supporting needy and deserving projects, institutions and individuals around the country.

I&M Bank’s CSR projects encompass many diverse causes, ranging from education, health care, children welfare and environment.
